Exquisite championship course amongst Asia's very best
An achingly beautiful 18-hole championship course voted Malaysia's Best Golf Course 2022 by Golf Digest Magazine, the East Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club is set in a serene parkland environment filled with wildlife. Featuring impeccably maintained fairways and greens, challenging elevation changes, and numerous bunkers and lakes, it's a demanding course that will live long in the memory.
It's a course designed to reward the intelligent golfer, with the generally elevated tee boxes offering you the opportunity to plan your route through each hole. The fairway at the par-4 2nd meanders back and forth en route to a very pretty greens that lies next to a lake bordered by a suite of bunkers, while the short par-3 5th features a nervy tee shot over water to a generous green that sits right on the edge of the water.
The front nine ends with a trio of holes requiring demanding water carries, notably off the tee of the 8th and on your long approach to the 9th green, which is shared with the 18th hole. If you're a little short you might get away with it, but anything left or right will find water or sand.
The opening holes of the back-nine, flanked by OB and condominiums, place a premium on straight-hitting from the tee, with much less room for error than on the easier-going front-nine.
The tough closing stretch is particularly stunning, starting with the short par-3 15th that plays to a very beautiful island green. The par-5 that follows offers up one of the course's sternest tests with water both sides and sand awaiting anything too conservative.
The 17th is another par-3 featuring water from tee to green, while the last is a long par-4 with bunkers either side of the landing zone and a very tough approach required, a lake lurking menacingly in front of the shared green that sits in front of the clubhouse.
The clubhouse features all the five-star amenities you would expect from a course of this calibre, and the Golfers' Terrace makes for a great place to enjoy a beer and watch the balls splash into the lake as other golfers take on those tough approaches to the 9th/18th green.
Overall, the East Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club is an absolute must play on any Kuala Lumpur golf holiday.
