Scenic Jack Nicklaus design close to the city
Opened in 1992 and the first championship course in Malaysia to be designed by Jack Nicklaus, Sungai Long Golf & Country Club is a very well maintained 18-hole, par-72 golf course in a pleasing natural setting just 15 minutes from downtown Kuala Lumpur. Expect generous landing areas, sculpted fairways characterised by numerous slopes and mounds, immaculately groomed greens and enough bunkers and lakes to keep you interested.
A pair of par 3s stand out. The 3rd clocks in at 219 yards and requires a 180-yard carry over water to a small green, while the signature 17th, shorter at 198 yards, likewise requires a long water carry to a green that's heavily guarded by water. Apparently Jack Nicklaus himself lost a ball on this hole once.
Water is only a factor on around half the holes, with substantial bunkering causing the main threat, notably at the par-4 7th, appropriately known as 'Sahara' thanks to its 150-yard long bunker that flanks the right side of the fairway. Three more massive sand traps beseige the 8th green, which is shared with the 6th hole, while another epic bunker fronts the green shared by the 15th and 18th holes.
Away from the course there's a driving range and practice green, and while the clubhouse is nothing special, it is home to a golfers' terrace that serves a range of local and international fare and makes for a great spot to enjoy a post-round beer as you reflect on your round at Sungai Long Golf & Country Club.

A nice golfcourse in Kuala Lumpur center
The staff at the golfcourse and in Pro shop where very friendly and let us go before our tee time. It "always" rain in KL, so we where very pleased to go out before raining- One thing was not so good. We where only a group of two persons and as we go rather quick, we twice come behind some slow players. But after some holes we could get through. Nice course and a good caddie. But he was not so pleased with his tip and we thought we gave him much more than we give in Thailand and we gave him what is the normal rate in KL, as we read in reviewsCourse Info
