Undulating and beautifully manicured public course
A very well-maintained public course close to the centre of Kuala Lumpur, Palm Garden Golf Club is made up of two excellent nine hole loops, the Eugenia Course and the Bismark Course. It's a heavily undulating course full of mounds and swales, and the course is routes around numerous natural boulders and rocks that add to the aesthetics. Numerous artfully-sculpted bunkers and plenty of water hazards mean you'll have to be on your game to score well as this deservedly popular course.
Bunkers are the main threat on the opening trio of holes, with four sand traps surrounding the green at the par-3 2nd and bunkers front and back of the 3rd green, putting real pressure on your approach.
Your approach at the 5th, a medium-length par 5, must carry the waterway in front of the green, so you'll need a mighty drive to even consider going for the green in two, while the green at the 8th is utterly besieged by sand.
After the turn, there's a lot more water to contend with, starting at the 11th, where your approach must carry a lake and avoid a pair of bunkers to find safety. The 12th is a long par 5 with water all the way up the right, while the par-3 14th plays from an island tee box to a small green guarded by a trio of sand traps.
The final two holes are especially good, the 17th a short par-4 that plays to a beautiful island green and the last a long par-4 requiring a tough approach to a peninsula green with a bunker either side. It's an exhilarating finish you'll be talking about as you enjoy a well-earned beer in the modern clubhouse after your round.
