A 27-hole championship golf course located near Kuala Lumpur, Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam has picked up a reputation as the hardest golf course in Malaysia since it opened for play in 1989. The championship course, made up the Hills and Lakes nines, is a classic par-72 course featuring rolling fairways lined with thick rough, small elevated greens that run fast and true, and enough water to keep you on your toes.
The nine holes of the Hill View course unusually include three par-3s and three par-5s, including two excellent short holes in a row in the 7th and 8th, and in general it's the elevation changes that pose the stiffest test, with water only occasionally in play, notably to the left of the green at the par-3 4th and off the tee off the 9th.
The same can't be said of the Lake View Course, where another excellent par-3, the 11th, features water from tee to green, and that's followed up by a par-4 with water all the way down the left side of the narrowing fairway. The 17th is a par-5 that memorable doglegs around a lake, with only a narrow gap between the water and a bunker through which to thread your approach.
The third nine (the Forest View)is much shorter at just 2,446 meters, and is designed mainly to caters for those who want to walk and senior golfers; however, despite its lack of length it's still pretty challenging, with the 22nd and 23rd both requiring awkward water carries.
Unusually for Malaysia, Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam has a mandatory caddie policy, although carts are optional. Away from the course there's a grass driving range, which given the difficulty of the course you're well advised to make use of, as well as a clubhouse featuring all the usual amenities including spacious locker rooms, a decent restaurant, and a well-stocked pro shop.
