Great scoring opportunities but average conditions
Bukit Unggul Country Club is a very pretty and well-designed course set in a valley with a lush jungle backdrop about 45 minutes from the centre of Kuala Lumpur. This hilly golf course is hugely enjoyable despite the average condition of the fairways and tee boxes, with plenty of wildlife on view (including scavening monkeys), good scoring opportunities, and cheap green fees offering great value for money.
Things get off to a fairly gentle start, with the 1st playing from an elevated tee box ito a doglegging fairway in the valley below, the second a relatively straightforward par 3 with a bunker protecting the left side of the green, and a genuine birdie opportunity on offer at the 3rd if you can avoid the lake off the tee.
It's not all plain saling though, with the 9th a real test thanks to the large bunker protecting the fairway, OB on the left and another bunker in front of the green. The 10th is a downhill dog-leg par 5 which demands a careful approach to a green surrounded by dense vegetation, and par is a good score at the 11th which traverses a valley to an undulating green.
The 14th is a very pretty and short par-3 with water on one side of the green and some pin positions requiring a carry over water to a narrow target, while the 17th is another intimidating par-3 with a massive bunker stretching back from the green.
Like the course, the clubhouse isn't winning any awards, but the Golfer’s Terrace is a decent spot to unwind after your round with a beer and some local or international cuisine.

First course I played in Malaysia in 2008 and whilst it's not cosmetically the best kept course you can argue with the view and the locations. A really good test of golf with plenty of variety in the holes - Doesn't suit any particular shot shape you need them all here. Always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
