Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort
About
Enjoyable and much improved parkland course from Max Wexler
Designed by well-known Australian designer Max Wexler, Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort is an easygoing 18-hole course in a lush tropical setting. Located just outside Kuala Lumpur (although traffic can mean it takes longer than you might expect to get there), it's much improved following maintenance, with the fairways and greens now in excellent condition.
While not an overly demanding course, there's water in play on more than half the holes, so you can't just breeze round and expect to score well. There's water all the up the right side of the par-4 opener, as well as cutting across the second fairway, while a pair of doglegging par 4s (the 5th and 7th) feature substantial bunker designed to dissuade you from the tiger line.
The two closing holes are probably the pick of the bunch. The 17th is a par-5 requiring your drive to cut off a much of the lake as you dare in the hopes that you'll open up a direct route to a green that is hidden behind a cluster of bunkers, while the last is dogleg par-4 requiring another water carry followed by an uphill approach to a green that's well protected by a trio of bunkers.
Other facilities in the resort include a swimming pool, tennis, squash, gym, table tennis, badminton, basketball and snooker - so there is something to keep everyone entertained. There are also three restaurants serving Chinese, Malay and Western fare, as well as a golfer’s lounge that makes a great spot to relax with a post-round beer.
