Short, unpretentious 27-hole course close to the city
Set close to the new townships of Putrajaya and Cyberjay and consequently one of the closest golf courses to Kuala Lumpur, Bangi Golf Resort features three nine-hole loops (named the Kajang, Putrajaya and Bangi nines) that, while not being in pristine condition, offer up some really enjoyable golf. The course plays short, so don't be scared to play from the black tees, as you'll still find scoring opportunities, particularly at the par 5s.
Although this is one of the easier golf courses in Kuala Lumpur, there's enough water to keep you on your toes, notably the signature 7th (on the Kajang Nine), a par 4 where the direct line demands a substantial carry over a lake; the conservative option involves laying up to the right, but leaving yourself a long approach over water, so it's probably best to go for it off the tee.
There's more water in the opening suite of holes of the Putrajaya Nine as well as the memorably 17th, a par 5 that requires a nervy approach to a green that juts out into a lake, but you're equally likely to come unstuck in bunkers, with the green at the short par-3 16th protected by a massive sand trap in front, and the 18th featuring sand either side of both the landing zone and the green
If you get a choice we suggest you play the Kajang & Putrajaya courses as they are more scenic, although the Bangi Nine is just as enjoyable despite not being as pleasing on the eye.
Overall, it's a unpretentious yet very enjoyable course, and it's hard not to leave with a smile on your face, despite the average conditions. A great choice on your next Kuala Lumpur golf holiday, especially if you're a high handicapper.
Don’t expect the course to be in pristine condition but this is a very conveniently located course which is fun to play for golfers of all standards and that’s what golf is all about.
